About This Readme

This document contains important information about Wonderware^® MES 2014 R2 (version 5.2). This Readme documents the system requirements, known issues, resolved issues, and changes, if any, to the Wonderware MES software documentation included on this CD.

Readme files from previous releases of Wonderware MES are posted to the Product Hub page of the Wonderware Knowledge and Support Center. Once on the Product Hub page, you can use the filter to list the MES documents, which include the Readme files. About This Release

Wonderware MES 2014 R2 includes the following new features and enhancements.

Updated Utilization Capability Object (UCO)

New functionality includes:

Writing of utilization reason changes can be enabled/disabled.
Utilization changes are performed without response through the Microsoft Message Queue.
Raw reason codes can be exported and imported for templates and instances. This allows raw reason codes to be transferred to other UCOs (for example, in other galaxies). It also allows a raw reason code XML import file to be created either manually or programmatically outside of ArchestrA to facilitate entry and management of a site's raw reason codes.

Additional changes are:

Production counters were removed from the UCO. Customers should use the Operations Capability Object (OCO) for production counters. Existing UCO counter information will be exported when migrating from the old UCO to the new UCO to assist with the recreation of the old UCO counters in OCOs.

Entity Model Builder

The Entity Model Builder now updates its progress more frequently.
The time required to record raw reason codes in the database has been improved.

Stateless API Changes

The DirectAccess class with three new methods—ExecSp(), GetDsBySp(), and ClearSpParameterCache()—has been added to replace the existing GetDSbySQL() method, which is being phased out. No changes have been made to the GetDSbySQL() method in this release, but the next release will limit the GetDSbySQL() method to only call a SELECT statement. The new methods are designed to call custom stored procedures in the MES database.
The DataLog48 class has been added.

MES Client

A Reports group of system parameters was added. These parameters are used by MES Intelligence Reports to specify the start of a production day.

System Modifications

Oracle databases are no longer supported. See the Wonderware MES Installation Guide or online help for instructions on how to create a SQL Server MES database from an existing Oracle MES database.
The db_status table in the database has been updated to track database upgrade history and hotfix history.
MES middleware tuning parameters were updated to improve the performance of the Middleware Server under heavy load.
A Clear Parameter Cache button has been added to the Middleware Proxy Configuration Utility, to clear the middleware's stored procedure parameter cache when putting changes to stored procedures into production.
The MES database Backup option was removed from the MES Database Configuration Utility. Database backups can be performed using the SQL Management Studio.
Wonderware MES Web Access (FactWebAccess) was removed from the standard MES install. See the Wonderware MES Web Access User's Guide for details on how to install MES Web Access separately.
The PEM Migration utility has been removed, as PEM objects are no longer supported.

Updated Documentation

In addition to all MES manuals and help being updated to the latest Wonderware format, content updates to the following documentation are included in this release:

Wonderware MES Deployment Guide. The major changes were the addition of information regarding the MES Web Portal Server, the removal of Oracle database content, and updated performance information.
Wonderware MES Installation Guide and online help. Major changes were: removal of MES Web Access (FactWebAccess) content; removal of Oracle database content; removal of MES database Backup from the MES Database Configuration Utility; addition of MES middleware tuning parameters; addition of the Clear Parameter Cache button to the Middleware Proxy Configuration Utility.
Wonderware MES Client User's Guide and online help. The major change was the addition of the Reports group system parameters.
Wonderware MES Service User's Guide. Major changes were: addition of the Reports group system parameters; removal of Oracle database content.
Wonderware MES Operator User's Guide. The major change was the addition of descriptions of previously undocumented features.
Wonderware MES online help.
Wonderware MES Stateless API Reference online help. Major changes were: addition of new classes and methods; addition of an example of a call using the Quality.Result.RecordResultData() method.
Wonderware MES Stateful API Reference online help.
Wonderware MES .NET Controls Programming Guide. The major change was the addition of explanations of the button bar controls for the Sample Viewer control.
Wonderware MES Entity Model Builder User's Guide.
Wonderware MES Operations Capability Object User's Guide and online help.
Wonderware MES Sample Recording Object User's Guide and online help.
Wonderware MES Utilization Capability Object User's Guide and online help. Major changes were made to document the new features in the object and the removal of production counters.
Wonderware MES Web Access User's Guide. Major changes were: addition of an installation procedure; updates to troubleshooting information.

Also, the Wonderware MES Dynamic Routing Reference Manual, Wonderware MES Middleware Extensibility Hooks Reference Manual, and Wonderware MES Virtual Environment Implementation Guide were added to the library of user manuals that are installed. The Wonderware MES PEM Migration Utility User's Guide was removed from the library.

System Requirements

This section describes the hardware, software, and operating system requirements to install the Wonderware MES 2014 R2 software.

Hardware Requirements

The following are the recommended hardware requirements to install Wonderware MES 2014 R2.

Middleware or Database Server

Computer with dual core processor with 2 GHz or faster clock speed, or single core processor with 3 GHz or faster clock speed. Multi-core processor recommended for optimal performance.
8 GB or more of RAM recommended, 4 GB of RAM minimum.
300-GB Disk with RAID support for data. The amount of disk space necessary depends on the frequency of data collected (number of work orders, operations, production quantities, etc.) and the amount of data kept online in the production database.

MES Web Application Server

Computer with 2 GHz or faster processor clock speed.
8 GB or more of RAM recommended, 4 GB of RAM minimum.

All Systems (Client Applications)

30 GB (minimum) hard drive
Super VGA (1024 x 768) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive, or access to a network share or portable media device that contains the installation files
Keyboard
Mouse or compatible pointing device

Note: Depending on complexity and size of your database server, 30 GB or more of available disk space is recommended. Your database hard disk space should be enough to support the storage and performance requirements for your particular deployment.

Software Requirements

This section lists the Wonderware and other third-party software requirements to install Wonderware MES 2014 R2:

For all components except Wonderware MES Web Portal: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.
Note: If Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is not installed on the computer, the Wonderware MES installation will attempt to automatically install it. On newer OS versions, an error will occur when the MES installation process attempts to install Microsoft .NET Framework. Therefore, you should install Microsoft .NET Framework before beginning the Wonderware MES installation.
If installing Wonderware MES Web Portal, the following are required:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5. If this version of the .NET Framework is not installed on the computer, the Wonderware MES installation automatically installs it.
- Microsoft Internet Information Services 7.5.
- Microsoft Web Deploy tool.
- The MES Web Portal server cannot coexist on the same machine as any other product that installs and places into the GAC version 4.5.1 of newtonsoft.json.dll. Otherwise, MES Web Portal will report an exception.
If installing MES application objects, the following are required:
- The Entity Model Builder feature requires ArchestrA Integrated Development Environment (ArchestrA IDE).
- The Utilization Capability Object (UCO) and Operations Capability Object (OCO) require Microsoft Message Queue for their asynchronous calls.
- The UCO cannot be deployed/co-exist onto the same platform with any other application object that uses a version of the newtonsoft.json.dll that is not from version 6.0.1 to 6.0.8. Otherwise, a Could not load file or assembly error message will be generated.
The Wonderware Information Server Integration feature requires Wonderware Information Server. For more information, see Wonderware MES Reports in Wonderware Information Server Guide.

Web Browsers Supported for MES Web Portal Client

The MES Web Portal client has been validated with the following web browsers:

Chrome 40
Firefox 33
Internet Explorer 9, 10, 10 Native, and 11

It is expected that the MES Web Portal client will operate properly with subsequent releases of Chrome and Firefox browsers. However, if any MES Web Portal features do not function due to changes in a new release of Chrome or Firefox, customers will be notified by a Technical Alert when Schneider-Electric is made aware of the issue.

Note: When running MES Web Portal in some previous releases of Internet Explorer 11, there is a browser issue that can cause filter boxes on a page to not display correctly (for example, the filter box might be covered by a tile). To prevent this, make sure that a recent release of Internet Explorer 11 (more recent than 11.0.9600.17280) is installed.

Note: Demo videos in the MES Web Portal help will not run in Internet Explorer 9 or standard Firefox. To run demo videos in Firefox, you must have an MP4-capable video player such as Windows Media Player installed on both the server and client machines, or have a third-party MP4 plug-in installed in Firefox.

Oracle Database

As of this release of Wonderware MES, Oracle is no longer supported as an MES database.

Database Requirements Notes

SQL Server should be configured for TCP/IP for local connections. SQL Server should also be configured for TCP/IP for remote connections if servers that require access to the MES database, such as the MES middleware server or the Reports server, are on remote machines. If you use SQL Server, make sure it is installed using a case-insensitive collation.
Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator and IIS 6.0 or later.
MES Database using multiple languages requires AL32UTF8 Unicode character set installed on your server.
Note: For proper database maintenance, it is recommended that you use an SQL Enterprise version due to the availability of online indexing capability.

Support for Virtual Environments and High Availability

The Wonderware MES 2014 R2 software can be run in virtual environments to support High Availability for Live Migration and Failover. Implementing High Availability can be performed using VMware technology or Microsoft Hyper-V technology.

Support for Non-English Versions of Operating Systems

The Wonderware MES 2014 R2 software runs on the following non-English operating systems:

Wonderware MES Firewall Exceptions List

During the MES installation, certain ports and applications are automatically added to the Windows Firewall exceptions list.

The 2007 Microsoft Office Fluent User Interface is subject to protection under U.S. and international intellectual property laws and is used by Wonderware MES under license from Microsoft.

Quinn-Curtis SPC Chart Control:

The use of the QCSPCChart and QCChart2D WPF and .NET controls require the purchase of a Wonderware Advanced Dev Studio or Wonderware MES Quality license.

Upgrading from a Previous Version to Wonderware MES 2014 R2

The upgrade from Factelligence 3.4, Factelligence 3.5 (all patches), Wonderware MES 4.0 (all service packs and patches), 4.5 (including P1), and 5.0 (including SP1) is supported. To upgrade from a version earlier than Factelligence 3.4, you need to first uninstall the previous version and then install the new version.

The MES Database Configuration utility delivered with this project supports migration of databases from version 3.1 and later. To migrate from versions earlier than 3.1, you must first update the database to version 3.1. Custom modifications to any version of the Factelligence database may not be supported by the utility and may prevent migration.

Resolved Issues

This section describes important resolved issues in Wonderware MES 2014 R2, listed by their Change Request number:

L00101361	If a reason is assigned to an in-process event and that reason is the default for another raw reason, when the other raw reason occurs, the UCO will recognize the change, but a new event will not be created.
L00123684	Report data can be generated but the downtime analysis top reasons graph is only labeling every second reason.
L00125451	During the creation of a work order from a process, incorrect or no specs get associated to the work order if the item being produced has been changed (delete initial and add a new one).
L00129962	When doing a galaxy dump of a UCO with multiple reason group levels, then doing a galaxy load from the galaxy dump file, you get an error and cannot open the instance.
L00130657	The Auto Reset of the PEM instance is not working when specifying the input source; the PEM instance will be triggered again and again.
L00131059	A job BOM is incorrectly created for an item with two BOM versions and nested BOMs.
L00131790	A job BOM is incorrectly created for an item with two BOM versions and nested BOMs - Updated.
L00134125	There is a difference in the Util_Log and TPM_Stat tables when two work orders are run during the same shift.

L00136068	In MES Web Portal, an error occurs when attempting to use the Edit Utilization Event dialog: You cannot make the change to the selected event. Pressing the F5 key to refresh the page clears the issue.
L00136142	A consumption transaction is called through the API with a quantity of 2060.20 The request is traced in the MES Middleware Client Trace with the correct value (2060.20). The call by middleware to the stored procedure (captured by profiler) shows the passed quantity is 2060.1999999999998.
L00136284	Unable to create a characteristic of attribute type with sample size source of 'entered' and (min sample size is bigger than 1).
L00136383	For the Item Prod Split function, when splitting to an existing item_prod record, the query does not group by hour. This causes multiple rows to be updated and the material balance to be off.
L00136385	When trying to consume items (AddCons) from a storage location that is marked as indistinguishable, an error indicating that item does not exist occurs.
L00136481	Time-outs occur when completing a long running PO.
L00136498	There is an issue with the consume functions sp_I_Item_Cons_AddConsPostExec and sp_I_Item_Cons_AddCons in that they are not prepared for the scenario where must_consume_from_wip=0 and inventory is unique by job=1.
L00136524	When opening the OEE_KPI control a second time in Window Maker, a Not Licensed error message displays in place of the control.
L00136526	MES Client takes 20-30 minutes to login when running it over a VPN. This is not an endorsement of using VPN as other editors will still be slow.
L00136537	Inventory import ignores the date_in parameter in SCC - instead it uses current time.
L00136538	Wonderware MES SPC Chart Rule evaluation is not consistent with the rule evaluation in the stored procedure when a value equals a control line and consecutive rule check is enabled.
L00136600	MES should not allow for editing the last event in a shift that is split by the system at the shift change.
L00136609	The stored procedures sp_BG_Minutely_Tasks and sp_U_Util_Log_UpdAllDurations is taking 32 seconds to execute when the Util_log has over 2 million records.
L00136678	Similar to CR 123684: The OEE Details and Production Event report is missing downtime event names.
L00136863	Indistinguishable lots are consuming twice the quantity specified: a record is created for each lot that exists in inventory (expected) plus a record with a NULL lot with the specified quantity (an error).
L00136868	When Autologin is enabled and a change on Entity Access for a specific group is being performed, the user_grp_link entry for this username and group will be deleted.
L00136944	Can't add a script to the SRO in WSP 2014 R2.
L00137175	Unable to create attribute characteristic with sample size source 'entered' (min sample size is greater than 1).
L00137177	When adding operations to a process, the editor picks up all existing entity links to other operations.

L00137417	Chinese characters will not be shown properly in the utilization reason tree.
L00137465	Consumption, Genealogy, and Spec .NET controls are not showing the correct detail for the work order; the previous WO selected is shown instead.
L00137567	sp_U_Sample_GenerateSamples lasts for more than 60 seconds even though there are no sample frequencies requiring scheduling.
L00137583	Need to merge Hotfix L00137354 and L00134990 together under one 4.5 P01 Hotfix.
L00137705	When a BOM has two versions and one version has an obsolete item, it is not be possible to create a work order from a process from the BOM version that does not contain the obsolete item.
L00137707	Import/Export are returning error "SCC Procedure xxx has no parameters and arguments were supplied" when a query with a parameter is using a default value.
L00137729	The last_activity column in the Dx_Sched table should store time in GMT, but it is using middleware local time, which causes the time displayed in Supervisor to be incorrect.
L00137842	The qty_reject column in tpm_stat table is not updating following the RejectProd API call.
L00137924	Samples that should be Complete occasionally get changed back to Ready by MES Service.
L00138056	In MES Client, you cannot delete an attribute once there are more than 999 attributes in the system.
L00138211	SCC is looking for a Manager SP that has been removed from the product.
L00138357	Issue with MES .NET control check boxes when using the default theme for Windows Server 2012: The check boxes inside the .NET Client utilization grid and the various MES controls are not visible.
L00138462	Issue with MES .NET control check boxes when using the default theme for Windows Server 2012: The check boxes inside the .NET Client utilization grid and the various MES controls are not visible.
L00138514	If the OCO is stuck in a busy state after failover, the only way to recover is to undeploy/deploy the OCO.
L00138662	End job fails when you have an entity with multiple job execs and stop/start some of the jobs (violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'IX_job_util_log_link_job').
L00138787	The stored procedure sp_S_job_exec_VerifyProcess takes a long time to complete when there are many specifications.
L00138921	Active Directory browsing Is Not Working in complex forest: This condition causes MES Client to crash.
L00139028	Enabling a Lot Attribute to appear in the inventory grid results in a timeout when saving this setting.
L00139248	The SetPendingReason() method from the MES Stateless API Util_Exec class has a limit of 254 characters for the Comment field; however, the database and the standard utilization control allow 2000 characters.
L00139658	CR 135701 for 4.6: Active Directory Browsing Not Working in complex forest - causes MES Client to crash.
L00139713	HF 138211 from 5.0: SCC is looking for a Manager SP which has been removed from the product
L00139891	MES Client does not provide a way to show the item ID in the grid when a BOM list is opened; it only shows item description.

Known Issues

This section describes important known issues in Wonderware MES 2014 R2.

UCO Evaluation Error

A known issue that is not related to an open change request is that, when using an UCO and referencing an attribute on the UCO, an error message similar to the following example might appear in the SMC Logger for Wonderware System Platform 2014 R2:

Evaluation Error: Raw Reason Code= EStop [UCO.Attr4=="ji"]: CompiledExpression.Evaluate: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

The resolution is to apply ArchestrA hotfix L00136496 or Wonderware System Platform 2014 R2 Patch 01.

Known Issues for Open Change Requests (CRs)

The following table lists the known open change requests, listed by their change request number.

L00120213	After you uninstall MES 4.5/5.0, the ‘ArchestrA License Server’ Services cannot be started.
L00120336	French laptop keyboard cannot enter numbers from the top of the keyboard into property pane of MES Client.
L00129775	After clicking the Exit button to cancel the Wonderware MES installation (for example, to install prerequisite software before attempting to install Wonderware MES), and attempting to run the installation again, the installation process hangs. Workaround: During the first installation attempt, a file is created in the following AppData subfolder of the user who initiated the installation process: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\Wonderware MES\4.6.0.0 In this folder there is a subfolder with the install build number. In the build number folder there is a file called InstallUserData.txt; delete this file. When you restart the installation process, the installation should proceed past the Wonderware MES component selection dialog box.

This can result in the following error when deploying MES objects within the AppServer IDE: OCOnnn.JobExec was not able to find a valid matching entity:Machinennn in the database, where OCOnnn and Machinennn are application objects. The workaround is to manually copy the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Wonderware\MES\EntityModelBuilder.dll to: C:\Program Files (x86)\ArchestrA\Framework\Bin\IDEExtensions\EntityModelBuilder.dll and re-start the AppServer IDE.

L00138867	A Windows user name containing a dot (.) will not be accepted as a valid user during MES installation. This issue occurs if Wonderware MES is the first or only product installed on the computer. This special character in the user credentials can be set after the MES installation by invoking Change Network Account from the Start Menu -> Wonderware -> Common menu group.

If you open another editor, the MES objects will display correctly. This is an ArchestrA IDE issue.

After installing Adobe Reader, double-click on a PDF file to view the book with Adobe Reader. You can also open a book with the Adobe Reader Open command from the File menu.

The Wonderware MES installation instructions are located in the root folder of the Wonderware MES installation disc as a PDF file and an online help file. You can view these instructions by clicking Help as you start the Wonderware MES installation procedure.
