Important - Read this before applying Patch 02!

This Readme contains important information about Wonderware System Platform 2014 R2 SP1 Patch 02.

  • You must have computer reboot privileges: In a server operating system, inadequate privileges can prevent a user from rebooting the computer. After the patch installation, the patch installer might not be able to force the necessary computer reboot. You will need to manually reboot the computer to properly complete the software patch process.
  • Installation: Each patch available for installation from the Patch Manager applies to a specific Wonderware system Platform product. The patches can be applied only to products.
  • Historian: Patch 01 was previously released for Historian but is not a prerequisite for Patch 02. Patch 02 includes the changes made in Patch 01 and can be applied to Historian 2014 R2 SP1, with or without Patch 01.

About This Patch

Windows System Platform 2014 R2 SP1 Patch 02 resolves a number of issues and provides additional support for newer versions of Microsoft products released since Wonderware System Platform 2014 R2 Service Pack 1:

  • Windows 2016 Standard and Datacenter
  • SQL Server 2016 Express-SSMSE (No Service Pack or SP1)
  • SQL Server 2016 Standard, Enterprise (No Service Pack or SP1)

Reduced Downtime when Patching Redundant Platforms

The Patch Installation Guide includes a new workflow that will minimize the length of time that the platforms are undeployed during patch installation. The total downtime required to apply the patch is greatly reduced when compared to previous patch releases, and will range from a few seconds to a few minutes. Refer to the Patch Installation Guide for more information.

When Wonderware System Platform 2014 R2 SP1 Patch 02 is applied to a galaxy that has ASBOPCUAService configured, errors related to aaEngine are displayed in the logger. However, once galaxy patching completes and the galaxy is deployed, there are no run-time issues and run-time data can be seen.

Workaround: Since there is no functional impact, no workaround is required.
